HARD SAUCE
Generous ¾ cup

A classic accompaniment to Steamed Plum Pudding.

Beat in a medium bowl, or in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, until creamy:

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Gradually add and beat until well blended and fluffy:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted

Add and beat until very smooth:

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla or 1 tablespoon brandy, rum, whiskey, or coffee
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt

Use as is or chill thoroughly before using.
