Combine in a medium bowl:
- ½ cup ground toasted hazelnuts, almonds, or other nuts
- ½ cup sugar
- (2 tablespoons finely chopped candied citron, candied orange peel, or candied ginger)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
Add:
Thin with:
- Milk, half-and-half, or cream
until of the right consistency to spread over the dough.
II. Enough for one 9-inch ring
Have ready:
- ¼ cup chopped toasted nuts
- ¼ cup chopped citron, candied orange peel, or candied ginger
- ¼ cup chopped raisins or golden raisins
Melt in a small saucepan:
- 4 tablespoons (½ stick) unsalted butter
After rolling the dough, spread it with the melted butter, sprinkle with the chopped ingredients and, if desired:
