HAMBURGER BUNS

These soft, pillowy, golden hamburger buns put mass-produced ones to shame.

Prepare the dough for:

  • ½ recipe White Bread through the first rise

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and round them into balls. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet, cover with oiled plastic wrap, and let rise until puffy, about 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Brush the buns with:

  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water

If desired, sprinkle with:

  • (2 tablespoons sesame seeds)

Bake until golden brown, 15 to 18 minutes. Remove from the oven and brush with:

  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

Transfer the buns to a wire rack to cool.
