WHEAT BERRIES AND BROWN RICE

This is our favorite combination of grains. The butter and soy sauce give it a rich, savory boost.

Bring to a boil in a medium saucepan:

  • 3 cups water
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Stir in:

  • ½ cup wheat berries

Reduce the heat to a simmer, cover, and cook for 20 minutes. Stir in:

  • ½ cup long-grain brown rice

Continue to simmer, covered, until both grains are tender, about 40 minutes. Remove from the heat and let sit, covered, for 10 minutes. Stir in:

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
