CROQUE-MONSIEUR
4 sandwiches

Preheat the broiler. Lay out on a work surface:

  • 8 thick slices hearty white bread

Spread 4 slices with:

  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • (Dijon mustard)

Top with:

  • 4 thin slices ham (about 3 ounces)

Cover with the remaining slices of bread. Place the sandwiches under the broiler until golden. Turn the sandwiches over and cover with:

  • ¾ cup grated Gruyère (3 ounces)

Broil until the cheese is bubbling and golden. Serve warm.
