For a richer dip, replace ½ cup of the sour cream with ½ cup mayonnaise.
Mix well in a large bowl:
- 2 cups sour cream
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce or 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Finely grated zest of 1 lemon
If desired, add one or more of the following:
- (3 to 4 green onions, thinly sliced, or 2 tablespoons minced chives)
- (1 tablespoon minced parsley, dill, thyme, oregano, or other fresh herbs)
- (1 tablespoon prepared horseradish)
- (½ cup chopped Sautéed Onions or Caramelized Onions)
- (1 cup chopped cooked or drained canned clams)
- (8 ounces cooked shrimp, chopped)
Chill for 1 hour before serving.
