Though we do not make any health claims for this warm tipple, it is our cold remedy of choice and takes the chill off icy winter evenings.

Place in an 8-ounce ceramic or earthenware mug:

  • 2-inch piece unpeeled ginger, cut lengthwise into thin slabs

Pour over the ginger:

  • 4 ounces boiling water

Cover the cup with a saucer to keep warm and steep for 5 minutes.

Stir in:

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice, to taste
  • Up to 2 teaspoons honey, to taste
